We invite you to join us for an unusual Troop 799 outing.  We will explore the colorful ancient landscapes of the John Day Fossil Beds.

We plan to setup a base camp along the John Day River.  From there we will conduct excursions to the 3 units of this National Monument (Sheep Rock, Painted Hills, and Clarno).   Evidence of volcanic activity, environmental changes, and ancient plant and animal life abounds. The monument offers many opportunities at each unit to explore these dramatic landscapes.  We’ll also visit the state of the art Thomas Condon Paleontology Center. During free time fishing will be one of the activity options.

We also plan to visit a site where we can legally search for and keep fossils.

See this LINK for pictures and more information on the trip.

Sir Robert Baden-Powell Quotes

“Be Prepared... the meaning of the motto is that a scout must prepare himself by previous thinking out and practicing how to act on any accident or emergency so that he is never taken by surprise.”
